3 LESSONS WE CAN LEARN FROM THE GREAT STORY OF REIKI

The great story of Reiki has many lessons to offer. This story follows the life journey of Mikoa Usui (the founder of Reiki) who  retreats into himself and finds what he decides to call ‘Reiki’. With this energy he heals and teaches many how to access it.

For the full in detail story of Reiki check out my other blog post ‘THE EYE-OPENING STORY OF REIKI- THE GREAT ART OF HEALING’

From this story there are many lessons we can take into our lives. The triumphs and tribulations that are experienced are always a learning point for the person as well as the reader. In this blog post we are going to discuss 3 powerful learning points we can take from the great story of Reiki and how we can implement it into our lives.

So lets settle down and relax our minds and soak up the benefits of these lessons. Starting with the first lesson. The fire that burns inside you.. Passion.

THE LESSON OF PASSION

Passion is something that many of us want in our lives. It doesn’t come around too often and when it does seizing the opportunity for expansion is important. Mikoa Usui had a burning passion for the healing world. He originally was a learner of many different areas of life. Areas such as religious studies, philosophy, spirituality and the healing arts. Mikoa was most interested in the healing arts. He would do whatever was possible to learn about them. He would even go as far as to search for the most proficient healers of that particular era to learn from them. This interest turned into a burning passion inside Mikoa. He believed it was his life mission and it was the most important thing in the world to him.

The interest that Mikoa initially had in the healing arts was like a small flame. He would regularly fan the flame by spending more time with the interest. Not through determination and willpower but through curiosity and fascination. He was genuinely fascinated with the art of healing. He wasn’t doing it to be ‘successful’ or to create a ‘legacy’. He had an internal drive inside of him.. Fascination and curiosity.

This initial small flame was given time and interest and it was turned into a big fire inside of Mikoa. Passion ragged inside of him for the area of life he loved.. Healing.

Mikoa turned his interest into a passion. Just by nurturing the interest with lots of internal motivation. Internal motivation factors can include fascination, curiosity and excitement. If Mikoa had lots of external motivation and no internal motivation the flame of interest would quickly die out. External motivation can include striving for success, striving to be remembered and striving to have lots of money. All of these external factors can be byproducts of your internal factors but they cannot be the leading motivation of your initial interest. If they are, the interest is not really an interest at all. Its just an interest in the external factors.

Furthermore, Mikoa turned completely inwards to himself and decided to climb Mount Kurama due to the burning passion of curiosity inside of him. He knew the outside sources of information would not be enough for him to learn about the true art of healing. Real learning comes from within and through the great teacher of life. The great teacher of nature. The great teacher of the mountains and the trees. He immersed himself in these qualities for 21 days. Up on Mount Kurama there are many lessons we can learn from about what Mikoa went through. One of them is the ability to surrender and let go. This leads us onto our next lesson.

Letting go

THE LESSON OF LETTING GO

Letting go. A quality that is a byproduct of having a lack of attachment for a certain area in life. Truly letting go is similar to truly falling asleep. Sleep happens when the correct environment and conditions are set up. Usually in your bed at night in a relaxed state. You cannot go to sleep through willpower. You must have a certain level of relaxation. A certain level of detachment. This is exactly true for letting go too. Having the desire or willpower to let go isn’t the same as actually letting go. It happens when the right conditions are there. The right level of relaxation. The right level of detachment. Its about finding that balance in life.

Moreover, Mikoa at the end of his Mount Kurama adventure found that balance. He wasn’t too attached or wasn’t too detached. He was just at the right level for letting resistance inside of his system go. Originally when Mikoa went up the mountain he was attached to the initial benefits he got. He wanted to feel peaceful, he wanted to feel lighter and most importantly he wanted to discover the power of healing. Originally he did. He was getting what he wanted. However, somewhere along the line he became too attached. Expectation began to rise in him and he became frustrated with his progress. This expectation and attachment to outcome lingered within him so much. He decided to give up on his journey on day 21.

Furthermore, to his uttermost surprise, when he gave up he saw the healing energy for the first time. This is when he saw visions of it and when he felt it in his body. Mikoa had let go of resistance. He had let go of attachment and gave in. Surrendering to the elements. To the trees. To the river. To the stars. This freed him up to percieve what was already inside him all along, the universal life-force energy. Which is in every single one of us. Mikoa just stumbled upon it inside of himself. He stumbled upon the universe within.

Letting go can have this effect. It can allow us to see what is deep within us. Beyond thoughts, beyond feelings. Deep at your core. The energy that roams here. This can be applicable to Reiki as much as it can be applicable to spirituality and general health. When we let go the natural universe begins to shine within.

Moreover, When Mikoa came down from the mountain he had a compulsion to help others who were suffering. This is where we get on to our final lesson. The lesson of responsibility.

The power of you overlooking the world

THE LESSON OF RESPONSIBILITY

You see Mikoa knew that he had a responsibility to heal others. He had this power that few people could perceive, although it it is within everybody. It was his responsibility to use it and help the world. What powers and gifts do you have? For sure you have many. You just need to see them for yourself. If you do see them. How can you use it to help the world?

The lesson of responsibility is not just about recognising the great powers and gifts you do actually have. It is also about taking responsibility for your own healing. When Mikoa was healing these people he would see them move on with there lives to better themselves. However some people did not. They may have made slight changes initially but ultimately they reversed back to there old ways. Sad and unhealthy. Mikoa would ask them ‘Why?’ and they would say ‘Its easier to live a life here than to live a life of responsibility in the outside world’. These people became dependent on Mikoas healings. They were using him as a crutch. They ultimately did not take any responsibility for there own healing. They left it to him.

Taking Responsibility for your own healing is a critically important lesson. The old saying ‘you can force a donkey to cross the water but you cannot make it drink water’ comes to mind here. You can give people healings but if they go out and do the same thing over and over again they will never heal. The same habits and the same old energy will just be relived as they have not healed anything. This is because they are not putting in inner work. They dont want to face themselves. They avoid themselves every single second of the day. Mikoa faced himself up on Mount Kurama as he eventually found himself. Taking responsibility for your own healing is to face and work on yourself. Learning about yoursef for yourself. Help from external people is okay but ultimately you have to make the walk alone. The path of a spiritual warrior is one that must be walked alone. Listening to the ancient wisdom you have inside of yourself. There is a whole universe in there that maybe your not currently aware of….. One day you will be.
