THE 5 LAWS OF REIKI SELF HEALING

Have you ever heard of Reiki? Or even energy healing for that matter? I mean apart from right now. Let me explain first and foremost what Reiki is.

Reiki is a form of energy healing that can be used as a tool for us to help heal other people and ourselves. Sounds cool right? Energy healing as an art has been around for centuries through various different forms. Tai chi, yoga and meditation can all be considered energy healing practices in and of themselves. After all energy healing is just the transformation or movement of energy within our systems by using our minds and physical bodies. This actually isn’t all that magical and you would be surprised to know that even if you do none of these practices, the act of taking a simple walk is moving energy around inside of you on a very simple level. Congratulations! Every time you take a walk you are an energy healer.

On a deeper level however practices such as tai chi, meditation and yoga clear energy blockages and move energy around inside our bodies. Reiki can also achieve this with amazing results. Reiki is a hands on healing modality, typically used to heal other people. However it is often criminally underrated as a treatment for yourself in what is known as a self healing treatment. This can reduce anxiety, boost your mood, reduce your pain and elevate your health overall. Just by laying your hands on yourself? Who doesn’t want that right?
If we all improved our health through self healing there would be no need for traditional Reiki treatments anymore and you would be your very own healing master. In this article I am going to talk about the 5 laws of Reiki Self Healing that you can implement to improve your practice and ultimately your life.

INTENTION

When we first start a reiki self healing session, having a clear strong intention is important. First of all, What is an intention? An intention is something you are aiming to do. In the case of a self healing treatment you could state your intention is to bring in the reiki for your highest and greatest good. This is just to signify to the brain and to your whole system that right now you are doing reiki on yourself. It also gets the reiki energy flowing in a more meaningful way for the purpose of self healing. This can lead to a higher quality and more effective treatment on yourself.

Typically before starting a Reiki treatment there is a calling in process. This is part of the whole intention process at the start of every reiki session. A visualisation of the Reiki energy is completed. In this visualisation you see the Reiki energy running down your spine and into your palms while simultaneously saying ‘I invite reiki into my palms for my highest and greatest good’. This process gears your brain, your whole system and reiki into action to kickstart your self healing session. Without an intention there is no real start to a reiki session and it takes longer for the reiki energy to be ‘activated’. I use activated in a very specific way there as reiki energy is always active and always working even for people who do not perform reiki at all. After all it is just the universal life-force energy.

ATTENTION

Attention is something you probably heard as a child in the classroom as the teacher shouted down in authority, but here this is not a word of strict discipline, I promise. Attention here just means to take notice of yourself during the reiki treatment. Taking notice of the various sensations that are coming up in your palms and within your body. Sensations such as feelings of coldness, heat, tingling or pressure are quite important in a reiki treatment. They give you information about certain body parts and systems within. With this information you can decipher whether to move on from a certain area or to stay there longer. Energy blockages within the body usually deliver a lot of sensory responses. Similar to when a masseuse finds a muscle knot in a client, there is a lot of sensation coming from that muscle knot. So when your palms feel lots of sensation, you have usually ran into an energy blockage. However without attention and the noticing of this, you wouldn’t be able to pick up the sensations offered to you.

Furthermore, attention also intensifies the deliverance of the Reiki energy. The right type of attention that is! There is two types of attention, strict attention and compassionate attention.  Strict attention is the attention where you are very hard on yourself if you lose attention. You discipline yourself not to lose attention and when you do you shame yourself to make sure that you don’t do it again. Compassionate attention is attention based on curiosity, its based on genuine care for yourself and interest. It is not done as a means to get something or somewhere. Compassionate attention intensifies reiki to a particular area as it has a basis of genuine care and love. Strict attention could actually do you more harm than good. Compassionate attention could bring you into a state of love and flow which is a very healing state to be in when performing reiki on yourself.

RELAXATION

Relaxation is often a happy consequence of reiki and it further works to intensify the reiki energy. However, our minds often get in the way of this. Our minds can chatter and chatter, disturbing our peace and our flow. Attention and intention can both mix together and allow us to focus on the reiki for its highest and greatest good. This can work to reduce mind chatter and allow us to intensify the feeling of reiki and in turn allow that relaxation response to happen. In this case reiki allows us to get out of our minds and into our bodies. Intention and attention can allow ourselves to get out of the mind but the mind can still come again and again.
One of the ways we can save energy and still keep our reiki session the most efficient as possible is to accept that the minds nature is to be active, searching and problem solving.  That is not a ‘wrong’ or ‘bad’ thing. You don’t need to do anything to relax it. The process of doing something is like trying to stop ripples in the water by splashing the water. The more you try, the more thoughts are going to come. This is because the process of trying is thoughts in and of itself. This means that the more you try the more chaotic your thoughts will be. Relax, release, enjoy and do nothing with the mind, only watch its wonderful movements. It will eventually mellow out and wind down as you combine intention and attention. This whole combination will produce relaxation within mind body and spirit. However, relaxation should not be the goal. Curiosity and looking after yourself with a sense of love is the ultimate healing of all. Reiki is for our highest and greatest good. It is not just for relaxation, it is for full expression of all states in order to balance the system. This brings us nicely onto our next law.

INTEGRATION

Integration. No I don’t mean the mathematical concept. Phew! I mean the general definition to combine together to make a whole. This means no division or conflict with yourself and the very moment you are in right now. This is exactly what the flow state is. When you become one with the reiki energy. When you and the reiki energy are the exact same thing. Your thought process and whole body are right in this present moment. No future, no past, no division, just here, right now. Integration of the reiki typically occurs when you are completely in the present. This means you are not desiring any particular result, you are right here in this moment. All desired results are projections of the mind in its current state into the future. Integration can allow us to be one with the sensations we feel that reiki brings up within us. Reiki can bring up comfortable or uncomfortable sensations, but they are sensations that are already inside you, the reiki energy just brought them to the surface.

The reiki is a fantastic expresser for your own body. Helping you to go from repression to expression. For this to happen however we need to accept everything that is happening within this moment. We need to accept our sensations or feelings, even if they are uncomfortable. Acceptance is the only way we can integrate these sensations into our whole being and allow for full expression and present moment awareness which ultimately leads to joy. When we experience integration within our reiki practice this state is extremely healing for our bodies on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level. This leads us nicely then on to the last law…. experimentation.

EXPERIMENTATION

During our own self healing sessions experimentation can mean a lot of things. It could mean experimenting through hand positions or with various different Reiki techniques such as Byosen scanning which is an advanced form of free flowing intuitive reiki. All these positions and different methodologies for reiki can allow us to expand our creative mindsets and look into our own energies. Getting to know our own energy can be fantastic knowledge for your individual self. When you know energetic imbalances within your own body you can help to correct them by yourself. This allows us to become very intuitive, knowledgeable and aware of our own bodies and experiment with our own energy. Experimentation can offer the benefit of learning more about our energetic bodies and in turn our deeper selves.

Experimentation is the last and final law of Reiki self healing as the foundations of Reiki should be strong before you experiment. Just like the foundations of a house, if it is not strong, the whole house will fall down. Strong foundations, strong experimentation. Taking your time with the foundations and really becoming one with the Reiki is one of the most important parts of the Reiki journey, the journey which really has no ending.
